April Updates

Hello friends of Community Crew, and Happy April! We are pleased to provide several important updates, invite you to upcoming events, and THANK YOU for partnering with us as we work to help transform lives of children and youth in Niagara.

Addressing Questions Surrounding National School Food Program

With the recent pledge of Prime Minister Trudeau to create a federally financed school food program, we have fielded many questions and concerns. We will continue following this initiative and will share updates as they become available to us. In the meantime, we’ll keep doing what we do in providing hope to children, one lunch at a time.

Our Executive Director recently shared these words: “While this funding announcement is without hesitation great news, it’s important to understand that this funding over multiple years will not replace the current needs that are vital to the operation of many programs like ours. It has been suggested that it will also take some time to negotiate transfer agreements between provinces and territories such that grassroot organizations like our Crew are still imperative for the right now and for being a part of future solutions.” – Stephen Cooper

Crew Eco Project is in Full Swing!

CONGRATULATIONS to the St. Mary Catholic grade 5/6 class for winning the first pizza party for excellent recycling participation in our Eco Fundraising Initiative! Our schools are doing a great job keeping batteries and other recyclables out of landfills in our AIM Recycling Eco Fundraiser! Let’s keep it up!

St. Mary Catholic Elementary School Principal, Mr. Sirianni, recently shared that:

“St. Mary’s is happy to partner with Community Crew in order to support lunches for our students…these lunches give our students an opportunity to focus on their schoolwork and not their hunger. As well, our students have taken on the initiative to donate batteries and aluminum cans in order to support this program in our school.  It takes a community to raise a child and our students are showing that by bringing in batteries and aluminum cans.”
