THANK YOU for a Wonderful School Year!

Summer is here! Thanks to the generosity of our volunteers, donors, and community partners, Community Crew’s Lunch Program provided approximately 150,000 lunches this school year to food insecure children in the Niagara Region! But more than just serving a healthy lunch to children in need, we helped children see that they matter and that we are cheering them on! Life transformation happens one step at a time. Thank you for journeying with us, and we believe there is much more we can accomplish as we continue working together…

The End of Eco Drive, WELL DONE!

This month we closed out our Eco Drive Fundraiser at our participating schools with celebration pizza parties (randomly drawn party winners). We are so proud of how hard our students worked and had a great time celebrating with them!

We raised $2,000 through our recycling drive!

Thank you to all (schools, businesses, individuals) who participated in this initiative!

Here’s what the Learning Resource Teacher at James Morden Elementary School had to say about our Eco Project:

“Student Council eagerly engaged in the Community Crew battery fundraiser. Reps from each class led this event for 2 weeks collecting over 10,000 batteries! James Morden is an ECO School, so this event was a perfect opportunity to engage in an ECO action in partnership with a community organization!”

We Still Need Volunteers in the Summer!

After the school year ends and our Lunch Program breaks for the summer, there are still MANY ways to get involved with Community Crew! Here are a few of the volunteer opportunities available over the summer:

  • Snack prep, in the “Summer Heat” DSBN camps in July
  • Delta bingo volunteer (St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Welland, and Fort Erie locations), with 2 hour times slots needed during the day and evening
  • Concession stand volunteer, Tuesdays and Thursday evenings at the Grantham Optimist Club for their baseball program
  • Note writing, for the personalized, encouraging notes that are included in our lunch boxes. Approximately 50,000 notes went into the lunchboxes of children enrolled in our Lunch Program this school year!

If you are interested in volunteering this summer, please email brittney@communitycrew.ca to learn more!

Looking for a fun family activity that helps support Community Crew? Please join us on Thursday, July 25th, for a night of baseball with the Welland Jackfish!

Community Crew will receive a portion of ticket sales for that game at the Jackfish Welland Baseball Club (90 Quaker Rd, Welland), AND we are selling one-of-a-kind bobbleheads (featuring local hero “Rocco”) in support of this event! We hope to see you there as we cheer on the Welland Jackfish in this home game against the Barnstormers.
