Gift-a-Green’s are designed to be grown indoors next to a window that provides lots of natural daylight.

Plant your microgreen seeds at any time of year. They do require as much natural light as possible and as long as they are in an area where they get natural daylight they will grow in any season (even on cloudy and rainy days).
then our instructions are slightly different.

** If using WonderSoil®, (Wondersoil pouches are marked at the bottom right on the back of the package) then add a 1/2 cup of water (no more) and stir the water and the soil thoroughly so that all of the water is absorbed and the soil is aerated. Then sprinkle the seeds on top of the soil and lightly stir the soil surface to mix the seeds in. The seeds shouldn’t fall more than 2 cm below the surface. The best method for re-watering is to use a spray bottle to heavily mist (but not soak) the soil. It’s important not to over-water as the seeds may not grow if they are over saturated. If you prefer not to spray the soil then add about ¼ cup of water every 3-4 days (depending on the amount of sunlight and temperature of the room). Make sure the soil does not dry out completely.

** If using regular soil (regular soil pouches would not have the WonderSoil stamp on the bottom right on the back of the package) then it’s best to spread the seeds along the surface of the soil and then lightly stir the soil surface to mix the seeds in. The seeds shouldn’t fall more than 2 cm below the surface. The best method for watering is to use a spray bottle to heavily mist (but not soak) the soil. It’s important not to over-water as the seeds may not grow if they are over saturated. If you prefer not to spray the soil then add about ¼ cup of water every 2-3 days (depending on the amount of sunlight and temperature of the room). Make sure the soil does not dry out completely.

**We have selected seeds that have a growing period from 7 to 14 days. After the 10-day mark all of our microgreens would be ready to be consumed. This is the point at which your microgreens will be richest in nutrients.

The best method for consumption is to use scissors to trim at the stems above the soil level and then thoroughly rinse. Please compost the excess soil and roots.

Microgreens are best used as a garnish on soups, salads, sandwiches or any other of your favourite dishes. They are packed full of nutrients and vitamins and contain a taste explosion of deliciousness!

Enjoy!!

Are microgreeens the same as sprouts?

No, they are not. Our friends at Mumm’s Sprouting Seeds offer the following explanation:

Sprouts are the first stage of a plants development, microgreens the second. They are grown hydroponically and without medium, and are keep moist and at room temperature until they germinate. The entire sprout is consumed, including the root.

Microgreens are grown in a medium (soil or otherwise). They are harvested after they have established roots and opened their cotyledons. Only the stems and leaves are consumed; they are harvested above their roots.

How to open the Gift-a-Green pouch?

1) Shake pouch vigorously until the soil has fallen towards the bottom half of the pouch.
2) Using scissors cut along the dotted line indicated on the pouch.
3) Once opened, carefully remove the seed package being cautious not to spill any soil.
Now that the pouch is opened, please refer to the FAQ question – How do I grow my microgreens?
